Latest Hurdle Cleared in Bringing Passenger Rail Line to Central Texas Region

Recently, the Austin City Council voted to support the funding necessary to implement and maintain a passenger rail line that will run from Georgetown to San Antonio.

The project, known as Lone Star Rail, has been in the works for quite some time. The Lone Star Rail District was created in 2003 with the goal of providing area residents with an alternative to I-35 and to ultimately alleviate traffic issues on the region’s major interstate.

The project is still in the works, however. It still needs $1.8 million to be completed and other counties still need to throw in their support.
